Orioles - Week 4 (2015)

Offense Continues to Slack

The Orioles have done nothing to provide their fan base with confidence that letting Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis was the correct move. So far through the year, the O's are 13th in Runs scored (103), 12th in Batting Average (.251), and 13th in OBP (.303). This lack of production has placed the O's in 4th place with a record of 12-13 after 4 weeks into the season.

Last week, the O's went 2-4 including being swept by their division rival, Tampa Bay.

During this stretch, their pitching remained one of the best in the AL. Chris Tillman has been leading the way with a 1.46 ERA and 10k's over the past 7 days. O's Adam Jones has been on a rollar coaster at the plate. In his last 5 games, he remains hitless with an 0-20 streak. You at some point have to wonder when Showalter will move him down in the lineup. The answer could be soon....

Matt Wieters and Steve Pearce were both sent on Rehab Assignments to AAA Norfolk. They are expected back towards the end of next week, barring any setback. A few moves will have to be made.

Orioles - Week 3 (2015)

Orioles - Week 3

What a week the Baltimore Orioles had. As Adam Jones stated last week, "You just need to keep grinding". The Orioles went 5-2 that included a 3 game sweep of the Blue Jay's in which each win was by 1 run. Zach Britton spoke with Dan Connolly from the Baltimore Sun and stated "This is the importance of the bullpen, a lot of times we are overlooked but when you play close games like this, it is important to hold the other team to that score". The Orioles currently sport the best Bullpen ERA in the American League at 2.27

After a slummping start to the season, Adam Jones finally began to heat up with 12 hits in his 29 at bats this week. He had a line of .414/.655/.1089 (AVG/OBP/OPS),

With all of the good news going around Baltimore, it was upsetting to see another "Should have been star" injured in Kevin Gausman. After the team doctor reviewed his injury, it was deemed necessary for him to be placed on the 60 day Disabled List with shoulder inflammation. With this move, T.J. Mcfarland was recalled from AAA Norfolk and put into the Bullpen. Buck Showalter decided to add Ubaldo Jimenz from the bullpen to the starting rotation. He will pitch his first game on Monday (April 27th) against Chicago. JJ Hardy was also recalled this week after he was activated from a prior injury.

In Free Agent news, a minor league offer was given to second baseman, Jose Fernandez out of Cuba:

The next series will be played against the Chicago White Sox, the first team the O's will play this year that is not in the AL East. The White Sox are off to one of their worst starts in franchise history at 3-15.

Orioles - Week 2 (2015)

Orioles - Week 2 (2015)

It was a tough second week of the year for the O's who only went 2-5. This included being swept by the Yankees. One of the big issues that the O's failed to have a successful week in which they fell to 5-7 on the year and 3GB of the division leader, Yankees was due to their lack of production.

Adam Jones over the past week only had 4 hits in his 26 at bats. This has given him a stat line of .167/,164/.315. In order for the Orioles to be more consistent, they are going to want more production from their #3 hole hitter. During an interview with MASN's Roch Kubatko, Adam said the following:

"It is only the beginning of the year, all you can do is stay on the grind and continue to wait for your pitches. It is disappointing that we had a stretch where we slumped like this, however it will come around. If you notice, some of the other guys are keeping us a float such as Caleb Joseph and Manny Machado"

Adam is correct, with Matt Wieters currently on the Disabled List, Caleb Joseph has done a splendid job filling in. He is currently batting .318 with 3 home runs and 14 RBI's.

Per the General Manager, Dexter Morgan, "We will explore all options related to Matt upon his return." As you may know, Matt is in the final year of his current deal and the O's are not knowing for making large free agent signings. Similar to last year when the O's let Nick Markakis walk and go to the Atlanta Braves. Speaking of whom, Nick took NL Player of the week honors batting ,565 with 1 HR and 3 RBI's.

The Orioles will wrap up their series with the Red Sox on Monday for Patriot's day. they will then go on to play the Blue Jay's and Ray's in the upcoming week. Lets see if Adam Jones can finally come up big!

Standings/Team Leaders

Orioles 2015 - Week 1

The beginning of a new season has the O’s hoping that they can continue their new founding success. With the disappointment of losing to the Royals in the ALCS last year, they have new high expectations of competing for the AL crown this year. The O’s continued their new found philosophy of not spending high dollars on free agents

Through the first week of the season, the O’s ended it with a 3-3 record, taking 2 from Tampa and only 1 from Toronto.

Thankfully, all teams in the AL East have the same record at 3-3. Leading the offense for the O’s in the first week of the season was that name all of the fans like to say “ALLLEHANDAROOO” (Alejandro) De Aza”. Through the first week, he is sporting a .368/.429/.579 stat line. Leading the way for the pitchers is that of Chris Tillman who defeated the Ray’s in his first start of the season. He only allowed 1 run on 5 hits. The next 7 days are still against the AL East with 3 games against New York at home and 3 games against Boston at Boston.
